On February 20, 2009, Staff Sergeant Timothy P. Davis’s died after his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED) near Oruzgan, Afghanistan.

Davis entered the combat control career field in June 2003. After completing more than two years of training, despite just getting back less than a year earlier, Davis reported to the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron (23 STS) and was one of the first squadron members to volunteer for a deployment to Afghanistan.

Davis's military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Combat Action Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the NATO Medal.
