Technical Sgt. Michael Perolio will be presented a Silver Star Medal during a ceremony at the Lackland Gateway Club, at JBSA-Lackland July 18 at 10 a.m.

Perolio, a Special Tactics combat controller who is an assessment and selection instructor assigned to the 350th Special Warfare Training Squadron at JBSA-Lackland, will be awarded the nation’s third highest medal for gallantry against an armed enemy of the United States.

Perolio will be honored for his role in securing the safety of his joint and allied partners during his deployment in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan. Perolio’s team was engaged by heavy machine-gun fire from enemy fighters, injuring three members, including Capt. William Clark, the ground force commander, Jan 11, 2018. Perolio returned fire and controlled precision airstrikes to help his team escape the kill zone and evacuate wounded team members.

“Perolio saved my life and the lives of several of my guys,” said Clark. “His actions ensured that we were able to make it home. He is a phenomenal joint terminal attack controller, a great friend and someone I consider a brother. I honestly can’t thank him enough for what he did.”

MEDIA ADVISORY: Media interested in attending the event should contact SWTW/PA at 210-671-4127 or SWTW.Public.Affairs@us.af.mil. Media must RSVP by July 16.
