Special Tactics TACP awarded Silver Star Medal for Afghan ambush
More than 250 family, friends and U.S. service members gather for the Silver Star Medal presentation to U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Cam Kelsch, a Special Tactics Tactical Air Control Party operator with the 17th Special Tactics Squadron, at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, Pooler, Georgia, April 9, 2019. The SSM was presented to Kelsch for actions while deployed with a U.S. Army Special Operations Command’s 75th Ranger Regiment battalion to Afghanistan in 2018. Kelsch exposed himself to enemy fire to secure the safety of his joint and partner force members by controlling precision strike air power from multiple aircraft as close as 35 meters to his team’s position, all while saving the life of a wounded teammate.
