  • Answering the call: Special Tactics Airmen conclude Haiti earthquake relief efforts

    Special Tactics Airmen assigned to the 24th Special Operations Wing concluded their response to augment humanitarian aid efforts in Haiti on Sept. 2, 2021 following a 7.2 magnitude earthquake, which hit the country Aug. 14. The Special Tactics Airmen were alerted on the morning of Aug. 16 that they would augment Joint Task Force-Haiti relief efforts. With the help of  C-146A Wolfhound aircrews, assigned to the 492nd and 919th Special Operations Wings, the team touched down in Port Au Prince, Haiti within 36 hours.

    Special Tactics Airmen assigned to the 24th Special Operations Wing are currently responding to a request to augment humanitarian aid efforts in Haiti following a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on Aug. 14.
  • AFSOC joins Michigan ANG, ACC in conducting historic highway landing

    ALPENA, Michigan-- Air Force Special Operations Command units, including Special Tactics Airmen from the 24th Special Operations Wing, as well as C-146A Wolfhound aircraft assigned to the 492nd and 919th Special Operations Wings, participated in the first ever intentional landing of modern aircraft on a U.S. highway Aug. 5, 2021 near Alpena, Michigan. The training event was conducted in conjunction with units from the Michigan Air National Guard as well as Air Combat Command. The joint effort helped to advance the Air Force’s agile combat employment tactics and better prepare forces for future operations.
  • Quiet Professionals bring the noise to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2021

    Airmen assigned to Air Force Special Operations Command 1st, 24th, 27th, 492nd, 137th, and 193rd Special Operations Wings treated airshow attendees with a full-fledged combat search and rescue simulation July 29, 2021. The airpower demonstration involved multiple aircraft, live narration simulating combat radio chatter, tactical vehicles, ground operators and pyrotechnics to simulate gunship and enemy rounds in the battle space.

    A Special Tactics Airman in the Kentucky Air National Guard was awarded the Airman's Medal for risking his life to save others while responding to a car crash near Louisville.
  • Special Tactics community welcomes new wing commander

    Families, friends and members of the Hurlburt Field and Special Tactics community gathered to welcome the new commander of the 24th Special Operations Wing during a change of command ceremony June 4, 2021 at Hurlburt Field, Florida. Lt. Gen. Jim Slife, commander of Air Force Special Operations Command, recognized outgoing commander, Col. Matt Allen and introduced Col. Jason Daniels as the newest and sixth wing commander of the sole Special Tactics wing in the Air Force.
  • Special Tactics combat controller remembered with building dedication

    As memorial day weekend approaches, members of the military community take time to reflect on the sacrifice of their fellow service members killed in action. The Special Tactics community specifically kicked off the weekend of remembrance with a special tribute for one of those brave warriors. The 24th Special Operations Wing hosted a building dedication ceremony May 27, 2021 at Hurlburt Field, Florida honoring the legacy of Senior Airman Mark Forester, a Special Tactics Airman killed in action while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan in September of 2010.
  • A year to remember: Battle-tested STO recognized as AFSOC OAY

    For most, 2020 was marked by the new challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic including working from home, zoom meetings and travel restrictions. However, the pandemic did not slow down the accomplishments of one Special Tactics Officer who had one of the busiest and rewarding years of his career thus far. U.S. Air Force Capt. Nate Peeler, a STO assigned to the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Florida was recognized as one of Air Force Special Operations Command’s 2020 Outstanding Airmen of the Year in the Company Grade Officer category during a ceremony May 13, 2021. 
  • ‘Service. Strength. Sacrifice’: Special Tactics training complex dedicated to fallen STO

    In a split second while on a mission in 2015, U.S. Air Force Capt. Matthew Roland made the last leadership decision he would he would ever make. Without hesitation, he chose to protect his team and give them the best shot at overcoming an insider attack in Afghanistan, sacrificing his life in the process. To honor the fallen Special Tactics Officer’s actions and courageous leadership, the 24th Special Operations Wing along with friends and family hosted a dedication ceremony in Roland’s honor May 6, 2021 at Hurlburt Field, Florida.
